Kersbrook Retiree Conquers the Kokoda Trail

Kersbrook Retiree Conquers the Kokoda TrailIn June this year, 61 year old, Mary Cook from Kersbrook, and an Original Bootcamp recruit, took on the challenge of walking the Kokoda Trail. Mary is now one of the oldest females to have ever successfully completed the Trail.

Mary said, “this was a physical challenge that I really wanted to prove to myself that I could do, and I was successful due to a very strong mental attitude and the help of the wonderful porters who make it their responsibility to get you to the end no matter what. This 96km trek in 7 days through pristine jungle will remain as one of the most moving and memorable experiences of my life.

The role Bootcamp has played in helping me get fitter and in planning that challenge cannot be underestimated”. The Adelaide Hills Original Bootcamp would like to pay tribute to Mary who has been a recruit for eight months. When Mary started she said that she can’t run and had arthritis in her knees but was keen to give it a go anyway.

Mary now runs 1km in around 7 minutes and her challenge is to improve even further. Mary is a great example of what a person can achieve no matter what their age as long as they have passion, determination and a “can do” attitude.

Good on you Mary!!!
