An idea that started in 2006 with a community yearning for all-inclusive exercise classes close to home, has blossomed into a successful, not-for-profit fitness program under the management of the Adelaide Hills Swimming Centre Inc.

Students and families have been exploring the new Nature Play area at Kersbrook Primary School, enjoying the possibilities on offer: tyre swing, rope ladder, balance rope, tunnel, dry creek bed, bridge and a circular huddle.

Open Gardens SA is delighted to be opening this charming garden at 12 Talunga Street, Birdwood on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of November from 10am to 4.30pm. New to the program of open gardens, this garden is a welcome addition to our spring calendar.

Volunteers from the Friends of Lobethal Bushland Park assisted Conservation Volunteers Australia member, Darren Kennedy, with the installation of nine nesting boxes for the endangered Western Pygmy Possum. Historically found in the Mount Lofty Ranges, this species has only had 97 sightings over the past century.

There’s a vibe at Birdwood High School, one of pride and excitement—of belonging, community, and opportunity. Students go about their day with books in hand and heads held high due to remarkable improvements at the School. These were implemented in collaboration with students, staff, community, and the School’s principal, Heather Makris.

Since March 2020, around 220 individual volunteers have been caring for and growing seedlings in readiness for planting this season on properties affected by the Cudlee Creek bushfires in 2019.

Hills families often pass on practical skills to the next generation. This was perhaps even more so, sixtyish years ago, when several of the Onkaparinga Rotary Club members were lads and the adults in their lives shared knowledge in a traditional apprenticeship of the land. Honed over the years, those skills have resulted in centuries of combined expertise within the Club.
