Community Partnerships a Winning Combination…

Community Partnerships a Winning Combination…at the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market

Every Saturday morning, Mount Pleasant is abuzz with activity as people come together for their fresh food shopping from over 35 stallholders and as catch up with friends over coffee and a hot breakfast at the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market.

The Farmers Market is a weekly food market that is owned and managed by an incorporated not-for-profit community group who volunteer their time to keep this great initiative running.

The Mount Pleasant Farmers Market is now in its fifth month of operation and currently employs a Market Manager, has an excellent group of committed volunteers who help out on market days, has an average weekly customer base of 500 and a growing membership of over 325.

Market members receive many benefits including 10% off produce stalls and a great locally made calico shopping bag.

And if you are a market Volunteer you can get extra discount at some of the fantastic stalls.

Recently the Farmers Market shared the Talunga Park Grounds with the Torrens Valley Football Club.

Market Manager Genevieve Hebart said, “It was great to see two community groups working so well together and utilising a great venue.”

Recently the Angaston Lions Club partnered with the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market as a great fundraising opportunity.

The Lions supplied volunteers who staffed the main entrance gates of the Market to collect the optional gold donations for convenient onsite carparking.

The Lions Club collected $200 for their efforts.

This is just one way in which the Farmers Market is supporting and benefiting local community groups and projects in the region.

Member for Schubert, Ivan Venning, attended the weekly Mount Pleasant Farmers Market, enjoyed a “Farmers Market” breakfast, and engaged in conversations with stallholders.

He was pleasantly surprised by the excellent variety of stallholders, ranging from fruit & vegetables, fish, bread, meat and wine to fresh flowers and poultry feed mixes.

The Mount Pleasant Farmers Market is held every Saturday, 8am to 12 noon at the Mount Pleasant Showgrounds.
