JOLLY GOOD SHOW at ALL BRITISH DAYThe weather was glorious at the Uraidla Oval for the 24th ‘All British Day’, held on Sunday, February 10th. Over 750 cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles were on display, including a bright red early model Dennis fire engine. All marques were represented, including a fine display of Rolls Royce vehicles, Jaguar, Austin (an Austin 1800 pictured far right), Lotus and Triumph. … Silent Testimony to Ash Wednesday

Silent Testimony to Ash Wednesday25 years have passed since Ash Wednesday and the memories of that fateful day still live on.
Not all properties of the Adelaide Hills were burnt out. A property at Littlehampton that was missed by the fire has a reminder of that day which people can view and perhaps ponder on the destruction caused by bushfires.

At Platform 1, Heritage Farm Railway, a 400 year old tree lives on by the creek. On Ash Wednesday, a branch from this old river red gum was blown off by the ferocious gusts of wind with the cracking of the branch being heard through the thick black smoke. All That’s Physical has to extend their services to go beyond the Physiotherapy Rooms and out into the community. Lobethal Tapestry Weavers

The Lobethal Tapestry Weavers, Katharina Urban, Wilma Bajka, Elly Webb and Christine Mackintosh, have recently received grants from the Adelaide Hills Council and Country Arts S.A.

These grants are to help finance the Weavers through the design phase and the teaching phase and other grants and sponsors are being sought to finance the weaving of a large tapestry, which is going to be a community event / activity and will be 250cms by 160cms in size!

The first step is the design phase, so, on Sunday, February 3rd in the dressing room at the rear of the Lobethal Centennial Hall from 10.00am until 1.00pm, Elly Webb will be listening to members of the community who have ideas for inclusion in the tapestry. The Mt Pleasant Natural Resource Centre, with assistance from the Australian Government’s Community Water Grants, will be implementing a water savings project this year to help our local community save water.

Gumeracha Primary School’s 150th Anniversary Celebrations

Gumeracha Primary School’s 150th Anniversary CelebrationsOn Friday 19th and Saturday 20th of October, the Gumeracha Primary School celebrated its 150th Anniversary with an exciting weekend of activities. On Friday the school leaders unearthed the Gumeracha Primary School Time Capsule that was buried in 1999.

The items in the capsule, including many samples of student work and photos, were displayed in the library to view. Later on Friday, many visitors were welcomed to the school for the Open Day with tours being conducted by year 6/7 class tour guides. The whole school was involved in a special assembly for the visitors, where student’s activities were presented about learning at the Gumeracha Primary School in 2007 and throughout this year, as well as historical moments in time. Nether Hill Farm Re-Opening

Nether Hill Farm Re-OpeningFormer owners of the Nether Hill Strawberry Farm, Doug and Margaret Reid, recently retired, with the new owner, Dr Paul Cowie, taking over the farm earlier this year. New manager, Simon Johnson, his wife Kerryn and family moved onto the farm in September with the property now called Nether Hill Farm.

A small number of strawberries have been planted but the new direction is to develop an organic farm concentrating mainly on growing organic vegetables and fruit and running some beef cattle, as Simon has been involved in organic horticulture for 18 years.
